"Life and death in ancient Egypt is proving to be a big draw at the Museum of St Albans in more ways than one.For the exhibition called The Red and the Black, which has returned to the museum in Hatfield Road by popular demand, was also at the heart of its contribution to the nationwide Big Draw. Then children were invited to produce their own pictures in the style of ancient Egyptian art.The title of the exhibition refers to the Egyptians' concept of their land - the black land was that part fertilised by the Nile floods each year and the red lands were the desert where their ancestors were buried. As well as using the museum's own exhibits, it also contains artefacts on loan from other museums across the country, including the Fitzwilliam in Cambridge and the Egypt Exploration Society. The exhibition goes on until June next year."
