A bit of a dumb question, but what are those wonderful white formations made of? Are they made from eroded salt? Or a kind of rock? Looks very otherworldly.
ps I love this blog and the daily Egypt fix it brings.
Hello there It obviously wasn't a dumb question because I received several emails asking me the same thing :-).
I've posted a short explanation on the blog today. It seems like a very mundane description for something so alien! http://egyptology.blogspot.com/2007/08/farafra-oasis-daily-photo-explanation.html
I am very glad that you like the blog - I started it precisely because I liked to home my daily dose of Egypt.
This blog was set up in 2004 to aggregate news about Egyptology and related topics from online sources on a regular basis. It was closed finally in September 2013 due to other commitments. It has been left open as an archive, but comments have been disabled.
Kindest regards to all Andie andie {at} oddthing.co.uk
