NY firms to raise funds for Egypt's new museum

NEW YORK (MENA) - Several New York-based firms will launch a fund-raising campaign across the US for the building of a new state-of-the-art museum complex near the Great Pyramids in the next few years, an Egyptian official said yesterday.Zahi Hawass, head of the Supreme Council for Antiquities (SCA), said more than 3,500 exhibits would be transported from the 150-year-old Egyptian Museum in downtown Cairo to the 'Grand Egyptian Museum', scheduled to open in 2011.International architects firms will contribute to the $350-million project. The new museum will be constructed within sight of the pyramids on the desert plateau outside Cairo.
