Egyptomania: Paintings of Susana Barros

ANBA - Brazil Arab News Agency (Marina Sarruf)

The pictures and paintings by Brazilian artist Susana Barros have very much in common with the Egyptian millenary art. The geometric forms, live colours and symmetry are the same as those found in the tombs, sarcophagi and temples built thousands of years ago in Egypt. "I am fascinated by this culture. The Egyptian figures and Islamic drawings inspired me," stated Susana.

The artist's fascination in Egyptian and Islamic art began 10 years ago when her daughter started taking belly-dancing classes. "After she started taking the lessons, she also wanted to study Arabic and I stated becoming more and more enchanted with culture," stated Susana. The passion for the millenary art made mother and daughter travel to Egypt in 2005. "We spent a month there. I saw many books on art and could see closely the geometric designs and symbols used by the ancient Egyptians," she said.
