Exhibition: Egipto, Nubia y Oriente Proximo

If you are living in Granada in southern Spain, or are planning to visit there, the exhibition Egypt, Nubia and the Near East opened yesterday in the Centro Cultural Caja Granada Puerta Real. 168 items are organized in three sections, the biggest of which is dedicated to Egypt, with 80 items. The Egyptian section is organized by theme, whereas those dedicated to Nubia and the Near East are ordered chronologically.

168 piezas distribuidas en tres grandes secciones. La dedicada a Egipto es la más numerosa, con ochenta obras que incluyen, por ejemplo, diversas representaciones de divinidades y un sarcófago. El visitante podrá recrear la importancia del río Nilo, el poder de los faraones y las creencias de este pueblo, que generó un potente aparato litúrgico en torno a la muerte. Las secciones de Nubia y Oriente Próximo siguen un discurso cronológico y no temático como la dedicada a Egipto. El Museo ha seleccionado algunos de sus fondos nubios obtenidos en las campañas de salvamento iniciadas con motivo de la construcción de la presa de Asuán, llegadas a España a partir de 1962 gracias a las gestiones de Martín Almagro. Por su parte, el apartado correspondiente a Oriente Próximo presente restos de diversas civilizaciones: acadios, babilonios, asirios, persas y fenicios.

It runs until 16th March 2008, and entry is free. There is a rather nice slide show which displays some of the artefacts on the Caja Granada website. On that page just click on the image of the exhibition and then on the new page, click where it says "Pulse aqui para ver mas imagines" (click here to see more images). You will need to turn pop-up windows for the slideshow to run. The slides take a few seconds to change, but they get there eventually.
