Egyptian style pillar collapses at historic mill

BBC News

One of 18 stone pillars on the grade I-listed Temple Works in Holbeck collapsed in the early hours of Monday.

Marshall Street was cordoned off at either end of the building, which is being assessed by structural engineers. Part of the road has been reopened.

The cause of the collapse is being investigated. Temple Works was built in 1840 and modelled on the Egyptian Temple of Edfu.

The building was originally a flax mill and its flat roof was covered in grass.
