London's Ancient Egyptian Medicine Exhibit Disappointing

Thanks to Stan Parchin for sending me this note. Apparently the exhibit organizers expected nobody but doctors to attend.

Suite101's intrepid Contributing Writer Frances Spiegel reported on December 10, 2008 that the exhibition Ancient Egyptian Medicine at London's Royal Society of Medicine is "a grave disappointment." On view from December 1, 2008 to February 28, 2009, the show is secluded in the institution's research library, away from the public's view.

Spiegel said the installation consists of a mere four vitrines. A nearby monitor displays x-rays of the mummy of Pharaoh Tutankhamun (r. 1332-1222 B.C.), images easily retrieved from the Internet. Pamphlets interpret the hieroglyphs of medical prescriptions.
