This review of the exhibition focuses on the mummy of a Graeco-Roman man named Demetrios, of which there is also a photograph on the above page.
"To Live Forever," an exhibit of Egyptian treasures from the Brooklyn Museum opens at the Columbus Museum of Art on February 13, 2009. . . .
Demetrios was excavated from a Roman cemetery in 1911. The exhibit allows visitors to see beyond the linen wrappings and learn more about this 2000 year-old man. Carbon dating places this mummy's time on earth as between 30 B.C. and 395 A.D.
Demetrios is thought to have had a Greek background since a portrait on the shroud is in the Greek style, and the inscription on the shroud is in Greek. Visitors to the exhibit are invited to learn more about this mummy utilizing a 3D scan.
