Australian held in Egypt in security probe

Reuters

Egyptian authorities have detained an Australian in the tourist town of Luxor after he tried to enter one restricted security area and photographed others, security sources said on Saturday.

They said the man, who also holds Polish nationality, had been held since Wednesday but had not yet been charged.

It is rare for foreign visitors to be detained in Egypt.

"The tourist is still being questioned," one security source said. The sources said he would soon be charged or deported.

An Egyptian interior ministry spokesman declined comment and Australian embassy officials could not be reached.
