A Cabinet's report said that the growth rate of tourism sector increased by 24.3% during the FY 2007/2008. The occupancy rate reached 62%, total revenue reached $ 10.8 billion and the number of tourists reached 12.2 million, compared with 8.7 million tourists two years ago.
These numbers reflect the strong growth in the tourism sector and the significant development in the sectors that serve it including an increase in the number of hotel rooms and the great interest in museums and tourist sites.
The report also revealed the volume of investments that have been spent during the last six years reaching LE 17.6 billion in the civil aviation sector. At the end of 2008, President Hosni Mubarak opened Terminal 3 at Cairo International Airport, which accommodates about 11 million passengers per year with investments of $ 3.1 billion.
