A five year project has been initiated in order to examine, conserve and maintain the tomb of Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings. the first two years of the project will be used to assess the tomb, leaving three years to implement the required conservation. The Getty Conservation Institute (GCI) will work with the SCA and it is hoped that the work carried out will serve as a model for the conservation and maintenance of other tombs on Luxor's west bank. The project will also look at the cause of the brown spots on the paintings and determine what, if anything, can be done about them.
