President Hosni Mubarak will inaugurate the Museum of Islamic Art in July after restoration, Culture Minister Farouk Hosni said on Tuesday May 4, 2010.
The museum was developed and prepared for tourists to visit, he said. The restoration expenses amounted to LE80 million. During his inspection of the museum Tuesday, Hosni said that the project took about three years.
Hosni was accompanied by Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Zahi Hawwas, the head of the SCA's Museums Sector Mohamed Abdel-Fattah, and the head of the projects sector, Ali Hilal.
The restoration of the museum included repairing around 102 artifacts, Hosni said. The museum is one of the greatest museums in the world due to the rare antiquities it contains, said Hawwas.
