As a nod to the rock art research mentioned above at Dakhleh Oasis in the Western Desert, here are some photographs of rock art in the Eastern Desert - a very different kettle of fish! For a start, except for one known image, all of the rock art in the Eastern Desert is engraved, not painted. Rock art is known from various locations in Egypt, including the Western Desert oases, Gilf Kebir, Gebel Uweinat and the Nile Valley.
These photographs were taken at Winkler's Site 26 (I have posted other images from this site in an earlier post). Click on the thumbnail to see the full image.

For those who are interested in Egyptian rock art, I have an archive of online rock art news items, together with a large listing of links to resources focusing on northeast African rock art.
