In regards to the top 10 in Egyptology...No. 5 makes me so mad!! This sanitised version is not why people go to Egypt, it is not what we come to see - so why persist with such destruction of people's homes and the various types of national heritage? It is beyond me.

I've got some photos of the new avenue, taken last week. I got my wrists slapped because there was work being carried out at the time, although I didn't realize it when I took the photos. It is a truly remarkable sight.

Even more remarkable, for rather unfortunate reasons, is the mini avenue of ram headed sphinxes that lead from the temple of Khons - one half of them have been cleared but the opposite side are literally up to their necks in accumulated mud and debris.
