I've re-checked the label that I photographed at the same time, and confirm that it states that the fragment dates to the beginning of the Roman period.
The label confirms that the themes are Egyptian, of course - Ra on the solar barge and a winged Khepri in the sky at the top left with a row of stars in the lower register.
This blog was set up in 2004 to aggregate news about Egyptology and related topics from online sources on a regular basis. It was closed finally in September 2013 due to other commitments. It has been left open as an archive, but comments have been disabled.
